Sounds like graphing the seasonality time series for a number of the factors you are measuring and comparing them visually would give you some ideas. As with most interesting questions, there is no easy answer to it.
To me community is something characteristic for a certain type of ecosystem, nothing that changes seasonally. Besides, the zooplankter you do not see for example in winter have not died out - they just are in a sort of resting stage or very low in abundance.
