I see that salary makes the teacher a place in his community, which reflects positively on the process of education
There has to be a baseline consideration of fiscal issues - there is an amount of money you (likely) need to survive each month (bills, rent, looking after dependents etc..) and once you have this figure, I would suggest that you look for jobs that start at this salary level. Having said that, the reason you stay and why you put in as much effort as you do is because of the love of the profession and always wanting to do the best you can for your students. As such, I suggest that you start in one domain (the financial one) and then move into the other (the knowledge based one and wanting to do the best you can).
The basis for teaching should not be primarily dependent of salary nor the environment. As much as these two elements are important and cannot be overlooked, teaching is a passionate effort which most times can be derived intrinsically. When your interest is focused on impact, benefits will become secondary. However, many people picked up appointments based on the benefits which stands at a relative view to me.
I agreed with Bamidele, for me it how I impact the life of a student. I teach for social justice to live Ubuntu spirit for sake of humanity.
Salary and environment are very important but the driving force should be the passion and the legacy one want to leave behind. Good salary and environment may influence influence teaching. It is good to give back to the community
Teaching is a noble profession. Teachers salaries are very important. It is a form of motivation. Teachers as human beings have needs and wants. We are in an era where money plays a vital role in our lives.To sustain yourself and your family you most have an income that can be utilized for livelihood. Salary as a source of income is very important to every working individual. Reasonable payment can determine one readiness to a job. Teachers salaries actually influence attrition. In fact, low salary is one of the major factors that causes teachers to leave the teaching profession to other professions.
You are never going to get rich teaching at the university. However, I have a family to feed just like everybody else. I don't expect to live in a mansion. However, I don't expect to live like a monk either. Having said that, I do the job because I love to teach. I could make more money by going back to work for the government or in business.
