As far as I can see it is not on the list. On the website they say that publication is free. So that is a good sign. It doesn't seem to be indexed though
As indicated by James Tuite (for the moment) they charge you nothing https://publikasi.dinus.ac.id/index.php/jcta/announcement/view/71 , this is comforting and contrary to ‘typical’ predatory behaviour. The publication of this journal is funded by the university. Consequently, their website (and that of the publisher behind it) is somewhat basic and not as fancy as the websites of the journal titles from the million (or should we say billion) dollar business of let’s say Elsevier. I see more trustworthy signs:
-Their editorial board https://publikasi.dinus.ac.id/index.php/jcta/about/editorialTeam looks legit (with a number of members associated to the university behind all this)
-Papers all have a DOI assigned and are indexed in CrossRef
-They publish more journals http://publikasi.dinus.ac.id and one of the journals published by them “Jurnal Teknologi Informasi” (Techno.com) https://publikasi.dinus.ac.id/index.php/technoc is a member of DOAJ https://doaj.org/toc/2356-2579
Unfortunately, one of the other new journal titles https://publikasi.dinus.ac.id/index.php/jimat/issue/archive makes use of the DOAJ logo while they are no member (yet). Still, I estimate this not as a predatory ‘organization’. If indexing in Scopus and/or Clarivate’s indexes is not essential, then I think you can consider it as a publishing opportunity. It is a pretty safe choice.
Thanks. I checked this with the Gemini this is what I got.
The Journal of Computing Theories and Applications (JCTA) does not appear to be a predatory journal based on current information. Here's why:
Positive Indicators:
Transparency: The journal's website provides clear information about its editorial board, policies, and peer-review process.
No aggressive solicitation: There are no reports of the journal aggressively soliciting manuscripts or offering discounts for publication.
Indexed in reputable databases: The journal is listed in the ICI Journals Master List, indicating a level of credibility and recognition.
Reasonable publication timeline: The journal claims a two-week peer-review process, which is within a reasonable timeframe for academic publishing.
Potential Concerns:
Broad scope: The journal covers a wide range of topics in computer science, which could potentially raise questions about its focus and specialization. However, many legitimate journals also cover broad areas.
Free publication: While free publication is not inherently a negative sign, it could potentially attract submissions from less reputable sources. However, the journal's peer-review process should ideally filter out low-quality papers.
Overall Assessment:
Based on the available information, the Journal of Computing Theories and Applications does not exhibit the typical characteristics of a predatory journal. However, it's always recommended to exercise caution and conduct further research before submitting your work.
Recommendations:
Read published articles: Assess the quality and rigor of articles published in the journal to gauge its academic standards.
Seek feedback: Consult with colleagues or experts in your field to get their opinions on the journal's reputation.
Trust your instincts: If you have any doubts or concerns, it's always best to err on the side of caution and consider other publishing options.
That two week review time seems very quick to me. Is it generally quicker in computer science than mathematics? But based on others' comments, it sounds like a bona fide university journal.
I've seen your discussion and I'm glad that you still think this journal is positive. Let me introduce myself as the Editor in Chief of the journal. It's true that we are a journal supported by our University and foundation, so publication fees are free. We are dedicated to developing this journal to be better and more reputable. We hope it will soon be indexed by Scopus and even WoS, so we are committed to providing the best service for our authors.
We provide a lot of substantive suggestions to the author (through the review process). Even at the end of the process, we provide free proof and layout until the re-citation process (because some authors don't pay attention to writing citations correctly). You can see for yourself the papers that have been published in our journal.
As editor-in-chief, I also publish many papers in this journal, which shows my trust, dedication, and commitment to developing this journal.
We provide many facilities to authors (rapid, free, and open access) with the hope that we will get positive votes from many authors, that more will submit papers, and can improve the quality of publications.
Of course, processing speed may decrease as our load increases and that is normal, but because currently this journal is still new, not many papers have been submitted, this makes us committed to processing rapidly. And when someone starts making a journal, of course, they try to provide the best facilities to provide the best service for the author.
Thank you for your attention, I hope you will continue to think positively about our journal and may be interested in submitting a paper to our journal.
Sincerely,
Editor-in-Chief Journal of Computing Theories and Applications
