According to Einstein, it was not possible to distinguish between uniform acceleration and a gravitational field, whatever was the experiment, provided that you didn't look outside the laboratory. Then the EEP was reformulated and the requirements were more restrictive about which experiments could be performed.
Is it possible to distinguish between a real gravitational field and the accelerated configuration by using atomic clocks???
The answer is yes...because in the real gravitational field of earth there will Always be a time dilation between two oscillators situated at different gravitational potentials (not due to tidal effects) but no time dilation at all will be possible for equally accelerated clocks.
The extension of the equivalence principle performed by Einstein in a REAL gravitational field is unfortunately falsified by internal measurement, without looking outside.. And as some say, the principle of equivalence as applied by Einstein has to be considered just as an euristic tool.
