Many researchers consider superconductivity (SC) an equilibrium phenomenon, because there is no external acting force (zero resistivity) and only temperature change is sufficient to make the phase transition. However, the flowing current itself indicates a state of non-equilibrium.. According to thermodynamics, when a system in equilibrium is acted upon by external force (or field) it is perturbed and undergoes a state of non-equilibrium. When the external force is interrupted (removed) the system should relax to its original equilibrium state. Well. When a superconductor is triggered by an external electric field a super-current will flow even if this field is removed. Is this a new equilibrium state or non-equilibrium with infinite relaxation time? What do you think?
