Can someone help me understand the reasons for the increased production of nitric oxide in patients with inflammatory myopathies?
increased protein nitration has been reported, which is often attributed to the action of peroxynitrite (product of NO and superoxide).

There is also one previous study suggesting that iNOS is increased in a rodent model related to myositis. The expression of iNOS is also often linked to peroxynitrite formation, though where the superoxide is from is another issue.

I do have a question: In your response to Mayer et al you suggest that the inflammatory infiltrate may actually be 'secondary' in IIM. By this statement are you suggesting that the inflammatory infiltration is caused by the ER stress or rather that it is of less importance than the ER stress?
Probably NO increases due to the iNOS enzyme of macrophages in an inflammatory milieu
