There is no general direct connection between smell and pH.

Some chemicals volatility might be depending on the pH. E.g. a high pH acetate solution doesn't smell but the same concentration of acetic acid does.

No not at all from a general point of consideration. Smell may be perceived differently by different persons similar to the concept that a colour may be perceived differently.

Thats why alongwith smell, colour is also taken into consideration.

Now it might happen that presence of some metals may give colour to the solution, which may or may not affect pH depending on oxidation or reduction of the metal.
