Hi, I would like to ask whether a placebo + active control arm is still considered a placebo. In dentistry, scaling and root planing is considered an active control. There are studies especially drug trials that have 3 arms: 1) active control 2) placebo + active control 3) treatment + active control (eg. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21687979). therefore, which arm should I drop to include in a pairwise meta-analysis? or do I equally split the treatment group?

Thank you for your time.
