I was going through a paper titled 'Blue Luminescence Based on QuantumConfinement at Peptide Nanotubes' where the authors claim that they were able to develop peptide-based quantum dots from diphenyalanine self-assembly by vapor deposition technique. I tried replicating the experiment and I succeeded!! However when I tried repeating the same experiment with other peptide systems, interestingly, I got the same UV absorption pattern for all and it matched the pattern what E.Gazit have reported. Now I am not sure if the reported UV absorption spectra is specific for quantum confinement as shown by aromatic pi- pi interaction or is it a common phenomenon, in which case, this observation do not hold any significance.
Kindly help me understand the process better. I hereby attach the link to the paper I am talking about.
