Recent study shows that more than 50% women face abuse on social media - from unwanted friend request to indecent messages to peculiar marriage proposals, women face harassment on social media every other day- highest being on Face Book. Social media have got prominence in every individual's life, more so after the the out break of pandemic Covid-19 and the lock down. And women are no exception to it. Then, How to check this evil practice?

The practical solution is to lock the profile, and implement the security measures of social medias to handle these issues. These actions can bring down the rate. However, in absence of full-proof mechanism, still some issues will be there. Only complete solution is to teach the users the expected behaviour in social sites and implement strong guidelines for the users; failing to that permanent closure of the account.

Online gender-based violence exists within a context similar to what happens in real life. It is just as destructive as offline violence.
We now live in a virtual society and offline violence has extended to online, which makes it easier for people to commit violence without consequences. Women are the main targets of online violence, especially women with voices, like female journalists and politicians. Online harassment can include online bullying, trolling, cyber stalking, defamation and hate speech, public shaming, and identity theft and hacking, amongst other offences. I provide training on how women can protect their identities online.
Men are also harassed online, but when women are the target, online harassment quickly descends into sexualized hate or threats. Absolutely - infact online violence is penetrating across society, hence everyone, including women are victims. The key issue is that, how can the 'law' be applied to a 'virtual platform'? Today, people can abuse other people in other countries (across geographical borders etc) due to online presence. Many countries don't even have the legal/law enforcement infrastructure to deal with cyber crime and abuse. It is indeed a sad state of affairs. I would assume that technology was created to help mankind, but it is certainly being used for the wrong reasons.
For now, self care and precautions are very important in any online platform.
