Say hot water (1m*1m*1m) of approximately 80 °C is kept 2 meter above the cold water (1m*1m*1m). Hot water is passed through a single tube heat exchanger through cold water which is stagnant by natural means due to its head and it reaches the hot water at the same position means both hot and cold water are stationary. In this case, how to measure the effectiveness or performance parameters of the system?
To have natural circulation (thermosiphoning in your case as you use tanks and pipes) you use gravity instead of pump. Gravity is provided only if the heavier part is higher than the lighter. Therefore I do not understand how your system could work if hot water is above the cold water. For natural circlation (no thermosiphoning) it is the same. Suppsoe you heat a large depth of water from the top outside (sun on a lake/sea), water will be warm at the top and stays cool at the bottom (stratification). If you heat from the bottom, you will get natural circulation vortices and soon temperature will be 'homogeneous'.
