Hello everyone, I would like to ask if MONOACYLGLYCEROL LIPASE is a potential therapeutic target for research to find new drugs in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease?
Monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) is a key enzyme involved in the metabolism of 2-AG (2-arachidonoylglycerol), a neuroprotective endocannabinoid intimately linked to the generation of pro- and anti-inflammatory molecules.
MAGL or MGGL is a valid target for Alzheimer's disease due to its role in metabolism of endocannabinoid 2-AG levels in brain. JZL-184 and few other potent inhibitors of this enzyme are being studied for diseases which can be associated with MAGL levels.
