I think that it is not all the time that conventional knowledge should be applied to research work and findings from your data analysis. Sometimes, the data you collected may present a finding that is different from what is on the book or from secondary sources. Researchers should know that if a research is perceived to go from A to B, and doing the research and collecting the data, and the findings show that the result is going D to E to Z...that is okay. There is no point to change or manipulate the results to suit results that showed A to B. Such findings (i.e D to E to Z) can be a significant finding and this contribute to existing knowledge greatly
