I am modeling a tunnel under dynamic loading in ABAQUS. The permanent lining of the tunnel is reinforced concrete. I would like to know if it is right to allocate behavioral properties of the reinforced concrete to a simple layer in ABAQUS instead of creating the detailed network of metal rebar and embed them into concrete?

I read that the fibres orientates at lining adhesion, but I do not know if it is beneficial for all load cases. Is it dynamic loads from the rock under the lining?

Yes the dynamic load is from under to simulate an earthquake load.

It is important to create a detailed network of metal bar which allow to preform the interaction ( using interface element) between concrete and steel. However, it also depends on the lining thickness also.

If the metal rebar consist of small free parts it will not be so many modes, but on the other hand, then they maybe move more, and loose from the concrete. But if not, since attached to the rock, the averaged lining stiffness decreases smooth, which should be desirable and cause damping, ideally?
I would model the lining as one layer with the reinforced concrete properties and I would make some considerations to decide how to connect it to the land overhead

I think a tie constraint is needed to connect the reinforced concrete to the shotcrete underneath, then I think I should use surface to surface contact using normal behavior (hard contact).

For accuracy, I prefer to model the concrete and steel rebars in details using different elements in addition to the interface element
Hard contact to the 'shotcrete' could be too conservative. Most severe for the lining would be if the metal rebars connect to a structure with many modes, and moves much, but microcracking in the concrete and other nonlinearities will then show as damping in an overall averaged model.
Will a scaling of the loads from normal operation traffic, look like a response spectrum from a small Earthquake?
