It seems non-wood pulp has a higher hemicellulose content compared to wood pulp under similar lignin content. In addition, the thickness of non-wood pulp fibres is around half that of wood pulp fibres. This positively affects the decreasing of energy consumption for NFC or MFC production from nonwood pulp.
You may need to consider the amount of cellulose nanofubres obtained as non-wood pulp has a large amount of hemicellulose.
residual hemicellulose by a simple alkaline or acidic hydrolysis will be remove but absence of lignin is a very critical problem. and because of lower content of lignin in non wood, i think produce NFC from non-woods is economical.On the other hand they need less high shear to produce NFC.
