Insulin is a protein composed by 51 amino acids and as such is not likely to be efficiently absorbed trhough the skin. There is active research in the field that apply novel technologies to favor transcutaneous absorption of insulin like the one you will find in the attached link. Whether or not these will work properly and/or will be cost effective has to be confirmed in the future.
