Even a microfuge tube would be fine for long term storage at -80 C. EDTA is neither beneficial nor detrimental - it prevents clotting (but your cells lysed when you froze them) and inhibits DNAses (but not RNAses). Tempus tubes are designed for temporary RT storage of blood samples for when immediate freezing is impractical (presumably not an issue here). Tempus also reportedly enriches the RNA from gDNA and protein, but your RNA isolation protocol does that too.RNA isolation isn't rocket science anymore!
