i sorted the data based on some demographic variables by "split file" option for the comparison of groups ( now i donot remember the order of selecting the variables on basis of which data has been sorted). Unfortunately one column of my data i.e. "Birth order " is deleted mistakenly. Is it possible to unsort the data to its original so that the "birth order column" could be pasted. I couldn't continue with the original file because I have to retain the edited file because i have added and operated many functions on it.
Please tell if any other solution is available for this.
Hi Sara, I don't think it is possible to unsort cases in SPSS if the original sorting variable has been deleted. If you're running windows you could try recovering an earlier version of your SPSS file (in file explorer, right click on your file, then "restore previous version")? It sounds like you have the original data still though, so you could try matching the original and sorted datasets using functions in excel if you're that way inclined (eg =VLOOKUP - although you may have to concatenate multiple variables in both datasets first to create a unique string to match to your birth order variable. Google can help you here). Good luck!
