I am considering on doing a research in regard of studying the efficiency of BLDC Motors in regenerative braking for my final year project. I would like to know what parameters should be measured and what systems or components are used in order to enhance the regenerative energy produced during the braking of the BLDC motor.

Brushless DC motor is suitable to be implemented in electric vehicles since it can provide high torque and is capable to do regenerative braking. While the motor is running, back electromotive force is generated with its magnitude lower than the DC-link voltage.
A new electric braking system is proposed for a brushless DC (BLDC) motor driven electric vehicle (EV) in this paper based on stopping time and energy regeneration. This new braking system is developed by combining various regenerative methods and plugging.

Regenerative braking can be applied to BLDCs motors by reversing either the current through armature or the field winding in order to produce the torque in opposite direction (the negative electromagnetic torque), but not both at the same time, which leads to the opposite effect. in most cases, almost all BLDCs structures can be used in regenerative drives.
