I want to model a signal with permitted left-turn in VISSIM, but I cannot not find such a feature. Does VISSIM have it so that I can implement directly? If it does not, is there any other way to do that?
For permitted left-turns, the operation of left turners is similar to that of left turning movements at a two-way stop controlled intersection. In this case, the subject vehicle has to find its way through the opposing straight movement. So, I think if you combine signal with either priority rules or conflict area rules, you will be able to model permitted left-turns. During the green phase, the left-turners are able to complete their movement by accepting a gap in the conflicting stream. Please take care in positioning the signal head and the locations that define the conflicting areas so that both operate independently.
I actually did the same thing, however, I am not sure how I should do that for actuated signal controllers as it does not allow overlapping of three signals.
Would you also please bring up an example for this sentence: “Please take care in positioning the signal head and the locations that define the conflicting areas so that both operate independently.”
