I am working with a biofuel cell for the production of formic acid and methanol. I ran into a problem analysing the products formed. I found in the literature that methanol, formic acid and formaldehyde were detected using GC-MS with temperature gradient in a single chromatogram.

I expect that water could not be injected into GC but I could see a large water peak also in the chromatogram in the paper. What could be the procedure? Are there any specific systems which can be injected with water dissolved compounds as well?
