Am trying to create a micro-model of masonry. I am modelling the bed joint as zero thickness cohesive element. The elastic traction option is used to give the stiffness properties and the damage is specified by Traction Separation Max stress model. This results in complete loss of strength if the stress exceeds the cohesive strength. Is there any way to specify the frictional properties for the same cohesive element to simulate the same effect as that of the interaction property?
There is a *Contact modulue in ABAQUS, in which you may specify the fiction coefficient. But I found the modelue is sometimes a bit hard to use leading to possible numerical divergence. Alternatively, you may consider using contact nonlinear springs to simulate the contacts both parallel and parperticular to the surfaces, which are easier to converge. For your consideration.
But i dont want to create interactions using surfaces. Because I want to replicate each masonry block with the cohesive elements to form the wall. If I use the surface interaction contact properties I cannot replicate it
Use a special element to get this. That element exists in Abaqus to resolve contacts problems..
Yes, I am using the special cohesive element. But the friction parameter is not available while defining the cohesive material properties using the Traction in elastic property and in Traction separation damage laws
I am modelling concrete-rock interface using cohesive elements on Abaqus but i can't specify the friction properties for this interface. I ask if you had solved this issue?
@hussein: You cannot give friction property to a cohesive element. Try using cohesive interaction
