There is an interesting clinical case and operative technique I am planning to describe. However, this technique was described previously with slight differences. Is it possible to write a review article on the topic connected in discussion area, and clinical case in methods? Should it be a review article or case report (as you might know, guidelines differ a lot for these two types of publications)? If I still decide it to be a clinical case report, should I highlight search methodology? Thanks in advance!
Reporting an unusual or interesting clinical case would be better published as a case study. It also varies across disciplines. For example, in health sciences and nursing a clinical case study will be an appropriate design. Some journals might even accept the case as a guest editorial or a letter to the editor. You would still need to include a literature review section, in which you can share the existing/already published technique and highlight how your used technique is different/better/ or more comprehensive.
A clinical case report methodology could be appropriate in this case.
