I have deacetylated chitosan using 50% w/w NaOH for 6 hours. But still it doesn't dissolve completely. Should I repeat the deacetylation step?

You can repeat it or redo it completely with longer time/higher temperature.
I would suggest you monitoring deacetylation degree of chitosan in order to determine quality of your process

Igors Sivacovs Since I want to repeat the deacetylation process. First time I had done with 10 g of chitosan and took 50 g of NaOH in 50 mL distilled water. Now I have 4 g of chitosan. Should I decrease the quantity of NaOH as well?
Noor Ul Ain as far as I have experience with chemical reactions usually there are three major critical factors — time, temperature and concentration.
So, I would suggest you keeping at least the same concentration of NaOH as in your previous tests.
Speaking about total volume, I think that you could decrease it if you want.
At the end of the day, optimal deacetylation conditions will be found out by trial and error.
