So far, i have calculated a simple mediation with X, M and Z. For this, i used STATA and the SEM approach with bootstrapping. Now, i have to extend these mediation analyses and want to include some control variables - is it possible to do this with STATA or is it necessary to change to MPLUS?
I am not a Stata user (but an Mplus user), but I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do that in any SEM software. What makes you think you can't?

I´m not sure because at my first literature research i have almost exclusively found MPLUS based mediation analyses with control variables. Furthermore, i couldn´t find descriptions or instructions about this type of mediation analyses with STATA.
You might want to look into PROCESS by Andrew Hayes. His website is very helpful (afhayes.com) with walking through how to use his software for these analyses. I am not sure if he has a STATA free add on, but I know he has SPSS and SAS code. His models would allow for control variable, I believe.
