I have microbial synthesized cadmium sulfide (CDS) nanoparticles. They are in powder form, I tried to crystallize them to perform Single crystal X-ray Crystallography, but unfortunately am not able to crystallize them. So is it possible to analyze the 3D structure of CDS by powder crystallography?
I am sorry to say that without obtaining single crystal of the compound you prepared, it is impossible to investigate its 3D molecular structure by X-ray crystallography. First you should have a pure single crystal of that compound. Good lock
Thank you! I have few cadmium sulfide nanoparticles which am unable to crystallize as they do not dissolve in any organic solvent. So wanted to know if there is any other way to study the 3D structure of the molecule.

If you interested in crystal structure so you can use powder difraction technique and standart programs, if you interested in shape of particles, you can use of electron transmission or scanning microscopy, if you interested in single crystal diffraction, you can use electron diffraction in electron microscop.
Or you have in mind something another?
Alexender Titov; Yeah I can get SEM/TEM for visualization. But however am interested in studying the Cadmium and sulfide complex from Single crystal XRD. I want to know in which form is the complex, EX: hexagonal, cubic etc. (If it has formed a complex).
In powder XRD we cant get structure of the compound.
You can get structure of the compound from powder diffraction data if you apply Rietvield method for structure refinement. There are many available programs for this method.
But firstly try to compare your XRD spectrum with spectra of already known structures those collected in many available databases (CSD, ICSD, CCDC ...). If your search / match will become satisfactory, you will get CIFile of structure and could do any visualization of the structure.
