I spent quite a while this past summer trying to blot for E-cadherin expression in the A549 cell line (NSCLC), but to no avail. There are a plethora of articles that show that the A549 cell line expresses E-cadherin. I've modified my protocols and procedures and have even used the MCF-7 and H1650 (NSCLC) cell line as a control (in which I did see E-cadherin expression). The laboratory has purchased a new stock of A549, yielding the same results. Is it possible that the cell line has incurred genetic drift in the stock possessed by the supplier?
