When you are in the process of submitting a journal paper, some journals ask you to provide a list of potential reviewers. If you know someone who is an expert in the field of your paper, is it ok to ask him/her to be one of your suggested reviewers?
I know that the editor might not choose any of the suggested reviewers, though.

I always suggest 5 potential reviewers while submitting my manuscript to a journal (if they asked). I don't know any of them personally, but i have knowledge of their works, contriburions, positions etc. I don't think it is necessary to tell them. Well, I'm also intrerested to know comments of others.

Is it OK to tell a professor that you are going to suggest him/her as a potential reviewer?
No harm in it....but for recommending reviewers.... journals have some requirements.....recommended reviewer should not be from the same dept of your university....or have collaboration with you ......things like this....so if you know such person meeting the criteria....one can suggest and even let him/her know that you are suggesting.......

Generally, journals require the names of 4 or 5 reviewers. An author's duty is to select the potential reviewers in his /her domain and communicate to the journal. But, asking or requesting the experts to be the reviewers is not required.
Let the journal editor to carry out this exercise.

You may suggest potential reviewers to the editor of a journal without telling them that you nominated them. Usually, you have to justify your choices to the editor. In addition, it is not necessary to personally know the suggested reviwers.

I would list more than two reviewers. You need not know them, nor do you need to tell or ask them; that is the duty of the Press. List the most relevant people for your topic.
I prefer to say Yes, journal may/ usually ask for a minimum (not maximum) may be 2, so no problem with more than 2, its better to give them more option : )

Why would you want to do that? It is more gratifying to get experts in your field to determine that your work is worth publishing without knowing who they are.

In choosing a reviewer it is important that he will be an expert on the subject you are writing about. So, naming a reviewer is a good practice ,because you will probably choose a person knowledgeable in your field. Usually , I am not naming a reviewer, but I am asking that he will be someone who is an expert on my field of study. Sometimes, because of the difficulty in finding a reviewer (a reviewer is not paid for his work) the editor could turn to people who are form another science field, and the reviewing process suffers the consequences of such review.
Asking author to suggest the reviewers name is I think not good practice ...then what's the duty of editors.
Editors do not only decide whether or not to publish your work. They also actually edit your work for clarity, spelling, grammatical errors, and consistency. They can make amazing corrections!
