I am not sure, but I guess that to protect the rights you can publish a preprint on researchgate and people can quote your paper. The more you are quoted, I believe that the more likely your concepts are correct. The longer they take to accept the paper, the more likely you are ahead of your peers in that subject. They might need all that time to comprehend your work, and if they can't really grasp it, the paper will be rejected. Or they need more time to prove you wrong. Who really knows? there are many concepts that took centuries to be accepted.
You better stop writing to those editiors and try another ones, for people of science should give a better look to time of publication. In two yrs, many papares will be published about that article, then your article will look as old one !!. Regards
I do agree with Medhat Elsahooki, as some researches are based on ongoing situations and they are of importance for that period only and article will not be of pertinent information and importance after such long period.
I also read from a very reliable source that a lot of industries are facing a similar degree of sluggishness when it comes to any task that requires reading. This is because less and less people today really enjoy reading, or even make reading a habit. The more we read, the more we enjoy it and the faster we become at it. Could it be that reviewers are becoming relatively slower at reading than their predecessors?
For my present paper, they sat quietly with it for two months, then when I asked to withdraw they started whining, sending me a ten-page withdrawal form to print, fill, and sign every page.
