We are using Sol-Gel process as a sub-process in our tests. Temperature of final step in this process was around 50 centigrade. However, in recent similar experiments this change has not been seen. What can be the reason? Ingredients: tetramethyl orthosilicate, Trimethoxymethylsilane, ethil alcohol, water and HCl.
Not necesssary since i have performed all our experiments at ambient temperature.
high temperature helps in terms of gelling time, but you will get better (quality) results in lower temp around 25.
You may work in environmental temperature, but especially when you are using two steps acid-base catalysis, the gelation is instant at slightly increased temperatures.
So it is up to your purpose. If you want to obtain transparent glasses as lens it is better to increase the temperature.

No need to increase temp. Just add few ml of ammonia in the same procedure you will get your product.
