When we select curing agent & clay surface modifier for epoxy nanocomposite, there are lot of options in front of us. There are certain researchers who have either experimented with surface modifiers or curing agents. It is widely known that type of processing method, type of curing agent & type of clay surface modifier decides the final properties of a nanocomposites (of course clay weight percentage). In that case when there are more than one factors that effect the output, is it not apt to use DOE and optimize the final surface property ?

DOE is very important in your case. It can reduce your experimentations and will let you know what are the mast reliable tests that you should apply. You can look at several tribological paper s that I used DOE to optimize and retry the final results. It will be very helpfull. You can use full factorial or half factorial if you have many variables.
