I tried different combinations of starvation situations with RPE-1 cells, but used serum free DMEM while starvation (as mentioned in some of the related papers of the field). But I didn't get enough cells with cilia.
I used antibody against acetylated-tubulin to mark cilia. I got signals from rest of the cell, but not particularly cilia.

I have never executed the particular experiment of cilia formation. But I culture my ARPE-19 cell line with 10% FBS containing DMEM media.
I am wondering if the cilia formation occurs at a very specific time point.

@shomoita Yes, it occurs at a particular phase of the cell cycle, i.e., the transition of G1 to G0 stage. In general, when the cells stop dividing they form their cilia.
