In my personal experience 3 sections from each brain and in total 3 brains is enough for statistical significance if the results you're generating are relatively close.
However, it is always recommended to go for the maximum to get the best statistically significant data.
* I group all the brains i have into different experiments that I would want to perform ex: immunoblotting, RT-PCE, ELISA, antioxidant assays and then histology. If the sample size is more its better to do perform experiments from n=3 times to n=6 times.

I like your recommendation to go for the maximum whenever possible, because I would be afraid to have significance with a small sample and then to lose it if you analyze a larger sample. HOwever, ometimes it happens the opposite, you do not see a significance until you analyze a larger numer of samples.
