I am doing a research about land use change effects on soil quality , I selected some physical, chemical and biological indicators include bulk density, available water, soil texture, aggregates stability , K factor, hydraulic conductivity, total porosity, macro porosity, pH, EC, CEC, water soluble and exchangeable cations of  Na, K, Ca and Mg, total N, available P, CaCO3, ESP,OM and soil respiration.

Is it acceptable to use soil total nitrogen as soil quality indicator rather than available nitrogen? If No, what the best and simplest method to measure NO3-N?
