Also you can make char from all the residual biomass like straw, wood chips, sludge, fruit peel many more. Pyrolysis will help you to generate heat in the form of gases (syngas), liquid (bio-oil) and biochar (carbon) and all three have fair enough HHV.

Are all these processes done in a confined or restricted area in order to prevent pollution with the aspect of burning.

Dear@ Denzel Sarpong all these process can be done in lab scale and reactors are commercially available which can collect all the products and by products after gasification, pyrolysis and HTC.

HTC stand for Hydrothermal carbonization in which wet biomass is carbonized at low temperature and high pressure using a closed reactor.

Depending on the feedstock characteristics you can operate anaerobic digestion to produce biogas (a mixture of gas; general proportion are 55-65 v/v % CH4, 30-35 v/v CO2). It is much more easy to operate with respect to pyrolysis, gasification or HTC but on it takes longer time (20-30gg depending on process temperature)
