Yes, if this is done with intention of prioritizing male above female or vice versa in a simple term. However, I prefer taking you further on the issue of abortion in Islam:

Abortion generally is prohibited and regarded as taking sole without justice. Fetus are divided into three stages in Islam. Qur'an 23: 12-14 States

"And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay. Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging. Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah , the best of creators". 

As indicates in the above Qur'anic verses creation starts as stated and has been confirmed by modern scientific findings on creation of humans. However, this verses did not indicate how long these stages will occur. Thus, the Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) tradition as related by Bukhari & Muslim in Forty Ahadith of al-Nawawi which stated in the Hadith 4:

On the authority of Abdullah ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he is the

truthful, the believed, narrated to us, “Verily the creation of each one of you is brought together in his mother’s womb for forty days in the form of anutfah (a drop of sperm), then he becomes an alaqah (clot of blood) for a like period, then a mudghah (morsel of flesh) for a like period, then there is sent to him the angel who blows his soul into him and who is commanded with four matters: to write down his rizq (sustenance), his life span, his actions, and whether he will be happy or unhappy (i.e., whether or not he will enter Paradise). By the One, other than Whom there is no deity, verily one of you performs the actions of the people of Paradise until there is but an arms length between him and it, and that which has been written overtakes him, and so he acts with the actions of the people of the Hell-fire and thus enters it; and verily one of you performs the actions of the people of the Hell-fire, until there is but an arms length between him and it, and that which has been written overtakes him and so he acts with the actions of the people of Paradise and thus he enters it.” It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Therefore, immediately after 120days a fetus has become complete human and aborting such a pregnancy on the ground of selection of favoring male over female or vice versa amounts to murdering human and carries penal penalty in Islamic law. 

There is however, exemption to this general rulings. In the case that the pregnancy would cause or lead to the death of the mother and eventually the baby might not survive the general consensus allows the pregnancy to be terminated regardless of the period such as eight months or earlier.

One important thing is "Islam place eminent importance on intention which bring about an action". This is evident in the Qur'an and prophetic tradition kindly refer to forty ahadith of al-Nawawi "The first reported hadith (Hadith One). Thus, Islam prohibited having sexual relationship without legal marriage and also prohibits illegal relationship between male and female just to prohibit unwanted pregnancy which could lead to committing murder.

Husband and wife also cannot just resolve in abortion or selective abortion just because they are searching for male or female baby. It is an unethical gender discrimination which United Nations' (UN) prpronouncements have declared illegal and is against international law. Islam nevertheless has family planning but not through selective abortion based on a gender obsession.  The forty hadith copy is attached. Lukman

Above information is similar to what I understand. As both men and women, or boys and girls are equally treasured in Allah PBUH-God's kingdom,  it would be my personal understanding that gender selection abortions would not be allowed.  Depending though on the Islamic school of thought, which Imam one might follow, and or ethnic/ cultural norms there could be differences in opinion.  To Add to Br Lukman's information above, another important factor here is Quran Surah 81- At Takwir ( The overthrowing/ act of folding up, rolling) verses 8-9, where it explains  the common practice at the time of Prophet Muhammed that baby girls were taken right after birth and buried alive, this was banned under the Quranic mandate, Prophet Muhammed implementing the ban, and incorporating into  guidance under Islamic law.
