Is hand hygiene the single most effective way to prevent healthcare associated infections (HAI). What are the other ways through transmission of HAI could be controlled in healthcare workers.
I will say yes and no with reasons. Yes, because cleaning of hands which comes in contact with infection due to the nature of their job needs to be clean regularly and frequently with sterilizing fluid that can be use in low resource settings and clean environment too helps. it is also no,in the sense that it is not only the hand that comes in contact with infection too (all parts of body area exposed too) which bring about fumigation of the health facilities routinely in a quantity that is not harmful to human being when they are expose to it.
Hand hygiene is not the single most effective way to prevent healthcare associated infection. A combination of hygienic environment and practice is very effective in preventing nosocomial infections. The following should be considered: cleaning and sanitizing practices in the environment, standard procedures for hand hygiene meaning the use of soap and water and not merely using a sanitizing agent on the hand when moving from patient to patient. The cleaning and sanitizing agent should meet healthcare standards (free from contaminant and use at correct dilution ratio).
