I'm trying to understand the current manner in which cluster analysis is used.
It deponds what kind of analysis do you need,for example you can analysis with statistics tools,but generally with clustering you can identify attributes and then you have more clear view about your problem

I believe that you are correct about different problem types.
It appears to me that cluster analysis has two main types:
cluster analysis of objects,
cluster analysis of variables.
Uncertainty might be addressed differently in these two different analysis types.

In my opinion the cluster analysis on production systems engineering is not appliable, according to Afaq, indeed, the assembly lines are affected by uncertainty, and so the cluster analysis is not appliable, better way to analyse them is statistical characterization of the typical variable, that are able to describe the system.

I think there are anumber of applications of cluster analysis, each of which has different uncertianty sources.
