We are not going to see the end of classical chemotherapy drugs any time soon.

Newer methods like direct targeting of proteins implicated in cancer, does not mean that usual chemotherapeutics are outdated.

Probably we shall see the old drugs used along with direct targeting and immunological targeting.

A deeper knowledge of chemoresistance may improve in the next future the outcome of classical treatments.

Better bioavailability will also be an important factor in order to deliver better results.

I've got from your answer that you believe chemotherapy could be a major field in cancer treatment like previous but it's need some improvement in its efficiency. This improvement can be achieved by better targeted delivery, increasing the bioavailability of chemotherapeutic agent with novel drug delivery systems and so on.

But, my question is about the future of chemotherapy in comparison to other methods, such as immunotherapy, Field therapy (like Tumor Treatment Field (TTF)), ....

I guess in the future chemotherapy will lose some parts of cancer treatment market in competition with other methods.

I agree with you. Chemotherapy will loose some ground in the future but it will not dissappear any time soon.

I think that, unfortunately, generally ineffective standard chemotherapy will persist over the next decade. The real benefit of targeted therapy in majority of tumor types has not been proved yet as well. To my opinion, oncolytic virotherapy and immunotherapy will slowly earn its place…
