Do you have potential access to a sample of juvenile delinquents, e.g., via family court clinic or juvenile justice detention center, and support from university to conduct a study?  Another option is that the scale, currently consisting of 32 True-False items, includes 6 items that specifically reference court, arrest, or probation.  Omitting these 6 items leaves a 26-item scale that may prove useful for assessing positive impression management in a broader adolescent population.  So, if for example, you might have access to high-school age adolescents, the scale might be piloted with such a sample.

I am certainly open to piloting this scale outside the U.S.  I think the most appropriate age range is 12 or 13 to 17 years.  Use of the scale in another culture and with translation to a different language of course presents potential confounds, although a good translation that captures nuances suggested by the items helps to limit such confounds.  I would be interested to hear more about your thoughts re what population can be sampled and what other measures you might have available to study for convergence and discriminant validity.

I would be happy to provide you with the scale if you are able to conduct a pilot study and you have the resources for translation to the languages of your region.  Can you tell me more about the population of youths you can study (i.e., youths involved in juvenile justice, high risk youth in the community, etc.), and what other tests or measures you can use to test for convergence of juvenile social desirability scale.

My name is Greg Abernathy, and I may be able to help with what you're attempting to study.  I'm currently an MSW student at Highlands University, and I also work as a Juvenile Probation Officer, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  We are a bit of an anomaly state in the sense that our level of youth criminal behavior is quite high, and we are under-resourced to help many of the youth we encounter (the Kasey Anthony Foundation has us currently ranked 49th in child well-being, and 50th in education). 

I also work a specialized caseload where I work with adolescence who have committed sexual harm (typically with an antecedent rooted in early childhood trauma), I'm not sure if that case load would be one of interest, or if you're looking for a broad categorization of adolescent delinquent behaviors.  Either way, I may be able to help put you in touch with the right people in hopes that good, viable research can be done in our state.  I can be reached via email at [email protected] or [email protected] if you have any questions, or if I can help you in anyway with this project.

Hi Greg.  Please call me Robert.  I would actually be most interested in field testing a different measure that I developed, i.e., the Caring-Uncaring Emotional (CUE) Inventory, a measure of callous-unemotional traits.  I recently finished conducting a second study of this measure which I plan to submit for publication.  My interest would be in studying this measure in juvenile offenders along with other measure(s) and to examine association between the CUE and delinquent/antisocial behaviors.  I am interested in following up with you on this.
