Thank you Alan. That is a vey helpful insight! I was intrigued by the concept of food deserts when I read an article that spoke of increasing domination of food by a few in certain areas [ something very similar to the idea of water deserts/ conflicts based on water access]. Also I recently visited Louisville, Kentucky where some researchers shared that there are no proper grocery stores in the area and people have to either settle for dollar stores or reply on fast food joints for food if they do not have a means of transport. I really want to work on two ideas (1) to look at the decision driving factors of retails to either provide or not provide a grocery store in certain areas and if the state has any laws for /against this? (2)  from amore international global health stand point- in areas of high demand and low supply of food, how do we work towards equitable distribution of basic food when these products are dominated by a few?
