There is enough evidence to suggest increasing prevalence of misuse of prescription medications including not just Opiates and benzopdiazepines but also more recently Gabapeninoids.
I am joining a team which straddles primary care and secondary care in UK to develop models to manage these concerns working in East of England.

A few years ago, INSALUD carried out several "Drug Utilisation Studies" establishing prescription profiles in an attempt to rationalise prescriptions in certain therapeutic groups, to avoid abuses, dependencies and to lower drug expenditure.
The Nordic Medicines Council Nördiska Lakersmedelsnämden has a lot of experience in conducting such studies.
Prescription of medications with a high potential for abuse/dependence is a pain in the neck for psychiatrists.
