As if it used in oil refinery in which part?
As far as I know, Adsorbent specially SilicaGel is widely used for dehumidifcation of the Air in process/instrument air production unit of gas, petroleum and petrochemical plants.
Also they are used in Dehumidification of industrial gases. Some industrial gases which are to be used in plant may contain some amount of humidity which is undesirable. That is removed by adsorbents. Of all adsorbents AC is most preferable but nowadays alumino-silica gels are also used.
Yes It can be used for adsorbent. It will be more moisture resistance adsorbent.
If use only silica gel adsrobent It will be easy to crack by moisture.
