I have a semantic problem about gene loci: If a gene is deleted from a certain genome, does the gene locus still exist?

For clarification: After engineering an organism by deleting the gene X, I have performed a genotyping by PCR analysis and named the analysis gene X locus analysis. However, some colleagues questioned whether that is semantically correct or not. Indeed, a gene locus does not exist if the gene has been deleted. I am still not fully convinced, can somebody help me out?
