Hi all,

I am hoping some very kind and generous individual might be able to help a novice here!

I am mid-way through a research project investigating the effect of musical genre on memory recall (how original!). I am using IBM SPSS, and have conducted a one-way repeated measures ANOVA, however I am hoping to expand on these results by investigating whether there is a primacy/recency effect for some of the four factors (different musical genres) which make up my one IV. To do this, I am looking at conducting a Chi-Squared test. Would a 'goodness of fit' test be sufficient with 'all categories equal' selected in the 'Expected Values' (as there are only two possible outcomes: (i) yes the participant successfully recalled more in the primacy and recency stages of the sequence, or (ii) no the participant did not successfully recall more in the primacy and recency stages of the sequence). Or alternatively, would a different statistical test be more appropriate, and if so, which one?

Many thanks for your help,

Rest assured it will be greatly appreciated!
