1. Is it a requirement that a paper in literature be based or constructed around a previously established body of work or theory?

Can't I just analyze the text and present my own perspective regardless of any previously established theory?

2. Can a paper on literature be constructed around a theory that is taken from a different discipline other than literature? For example to relate a poetic text analysis to a psychology or sociology based theory.
