1. The Indian public buys something to eat and they throw away their waste where they stand.
2. Similarly, when mechanics repair motor cars, they throw away the packaging materials of the new materials where they stand.
3. You can see the waste packaging of products in the railway lines.
4. Municipalities collect the waste from their areas, and they throw it in river beds.
5. Industries throw their waste in and across roadways, railways and rivers.
6. Hospitals doing the same work don't care about public health
7. Schools and colleges are also not taking any steps in this regard.
Our country is largely populated, how can the people be educated? And what other steps should be taken by the Government? What responsibility should the public take?
Please give us a master plan to control the waste.
It is a challenging task not only to India but also many countries in the region. Many steps can be taken but what I feel is we have to inculcate positive attitudes among children so that they will become responsible citizens. In the mean time, an integrated approach which covers the issue of waste generation, management, reuse, recycling etc. has to be implemented at all the possible levels. Therefore, all the stakeholders should be made responsible and involved. From the government side, the legal frame work which support the process needs to be strengthen, good governance need to be established, rewarding better management practices etc.. could be thought of.
I visited India some years ago and can give some impressions. India seemed to be a very complicate country, rich of extreme and different situations. Some very very rich people and lot of poors; nuclear power and farmers digging fields with instruments of 2000 years ago. Roads crowded of every kind of vehicles, hours to move from one place to the other at short distance. So it is very difficult design and concretize a master plan. Two main actions at lest: education, starting from new generations (i met a lot of beautiful smiling child!) and remove the enormous amounts of wastes floating on the rivers. Start from selected sites, show the population ow beautiful is clean water, take pictures of before and after the improvement.

What happens to the leaders? The champion of change? The followers of good...? I think they really need to take the lead. Leaders must have a strong political will. But for me, as an individual, I show by example. Change must begin in oneself. And let it influence others. Follow by example. Then slowly you can change the society, i hope.
I think the easy way to make it settle is firstly we should integrate this system in the plan itself. If every home start to do the management of waste then there is no need of this much headache. Firstly people should be aware that all decay able waste can be collected in one place and under anaerobic condition they can be made fertilizers which would help to increase the productivity. and other non decay able can be reuse recycle. So to do all this government also should step up with some rules. While passing the planning of new building or renewing the government tax they should check weather compost pit and recycle reuse systems are integrated or not. If this can be done then our burden can be reduced by more than 90%. This type of system has a lot of merits. One is we can spread awareness to more people within a limited time, We can have good waste management system within our-self and we can set examples to other society and moreover we will be key member for protecting environment and we will be free from many diseases
A significant change would occur if the organic waste stream could be converted into materials of use in the society. Our work in Managed Ecosystem Fermentation has shown that organic waste can be biologically converted into high protein animal feed, as well as other chemicals used in industry and agriculture. The MEF process does this conversion in 24 hours. Attached is a paper recently published in the International Journal of Biotechnology for the Wellness Industry that describes the process, the products produced, and the economics.
I would like to state some keys points that I think are crucial for an effective waste management system specially in a country which has high organic waste proportion.
Organic waste which is about 60 to 70% of the total waste should be handled with composting/biogasification. The procedure's end products includes compost and energy.
System should be integrated so that the type of waste cannot be handled by one treatment methods can be handled by other.
Segregation at source should be done which is very important in terms of improvement in the recycling system.
Scavengers should be hired and given proper training of waste handling.
Reduce, reuse and recycle should be improved with the help of improving the public mind set about the waste.
MEF takes organic waste and converts it into products that have a higher economic value than methane. Products that are not used in the local economy can be sold internationally to generate foreign currency. The process rapidly adapts to changes in the organic waste stream. In this case the scavengers would be employed making sure the plastic and other non organic material is removed from the waste stream. Segregation is no longer an issue. All that is needed is an efficient system to concentrate the waste. Many of the chemicals produced can easily be incorporated into the chemical indusrty of India.
Firstly, awareness is most. people should construct small compost pit in each and every houses as per the area flexibility. then the waste which can be decay should be properly managed in compost pit . so that natural fertilizers can be produced which can be used for productivity. And other which can't be decay can be reuse- recycle as per the condition. this helps a lot in reducing the waste in great extend which every house can adopt. This also helps for government in accessing waste management, and also controls pollution and have many advantages. so this system need to be incorporated in every house of India and across the world....
I agree with Najim, that starting with education would be a good idea. Since you mention that schools don't engage, here is another idea: Deposit. If government forces industry to charge a small deposit on packaging that is reembused if the packaging is brougt back to the shop, you will have an instant army of cleaners: Poor people wil make a living of bringing orther peoples waste back.
