In some publications I have read about the use of immunosuppressive drugs and antibiotics directly during surgery to prevent inflammation and brain swelling (e.g. dexamethasone and enrofloxacin in Watson et al. 2015 - The Zona Incerta Regulates Communication Between the Superior Colliculus and the Posteromedial Thalamus: Implications for Thalamic Interactions With the Dorsolateral Striatum).

Has anyone had good/bad experiences with them? Is it a good way to extend the longevity of tetrode recordings and prevent the formation of glial scars? And if so, which application can be recommended (medication, dose, day of administration, regularity of administration)?

And if not, are there any other recommendations for increasing the stability of long-term (approx. 6 weeks) recordings?
