The literature does not seem to fully agree with a particular timeline for surgery - if needed.
The majority of patients with no-severe ankle sprain have conservative treatment (physiotherapy for 4-6 weeks and in some cases up to 12 weeks). Yet, recurrence rate, in several cases, seems to be high. Whether conservative treatment timeline should be reviewed or some patients does not recover well regardless of time and type of conservative treatment, many patients end up having surgery. What is your clinical perspective for patients who suffer with chronic ankle sprain? Is surgery a good option after rehabilitation has failed? If yes, what is your expectation for surgery outcome?
