Which is better hydrochloric acid or acetic acid?why?
Acetic acid is a weaker acid, and will be less likely to degrade the chitosan to lower MW fragments over time.
I do agree with the suggestion of Dr. Greg Cote. Acetic acid in low concentration (about 1% v/v in water) is suitable.
For dissolving chitosan at 1%level 0.5% acetic acid is sufficient. Other organic acids can also be used.
